In our continuous search to inspire aspiring young entrepreneurs, we came across an Inspiring Story which we couldn’t hold back but share with you.
Access W, an Initiative of Access Bank Plc set up thewcommunity.com which puts women at the center stage. W is clearly for Women. From the girl child to the young professional, the woman and her family and the woman-in-business. Access W believes that women are powerful and key catalyst for change. It’s really about embracing the truth about empowering women.
This week, Access W met Tosin Dekalu, an entrepreneur who reopened Lady Cobbler, a dormant franchise originally founded by her mother in 1983, in 2005. Since it’s reopening, Lady Cobbler has proved to be an evolving force in the footwear production and retail market. The company now boasts of two Lagos locations as a result of the impeccable prowess and attention to detail that sets it apart from its competitors.
In this interview, Dekalu credits an interesting combination of her individual passion, hard work and the exposure she had to the business at an early age as the recipe for her success. She states that this prior exposure gave her the initial confidence necessary to dominate her industry as a newcomer and continues to allow her to persevere through the inevitable challenges she faces today.
As we continue to celebrate women that have positioned themselves as role models in our society and draw inspiration from their individual stories, Dekalu’s story is particularly striking as it touchingly illustrates how a mother can transfer viable skills to her daughter and invariably give her a leg up in her chosen career later in life.
Whilst passions between mother and child may not always align, we at W believe that this example of female empowerment is particularly moving and warrants recognition.
W celebrates Tosin Dekalu, MD, Lady Cobbler. Enjoy!!
